My Weekend
Catch up time again! I had to leave the computer at work on Thursday night so RP UK office could remote access it to see why Outlook doesn't work. But I forgot to connect it up before I left and so I had to wait till Monday for them to look at it and now have finally got this computer back to the hotel. I should be getting a new laptop at work tomorrow and I can't wait as I don't like working on webmail on someone else's computer as it's so long winded. It should work out well though if I get to keep this laptop at the hotel as then I can blog/email/skype every evening if I want!!
Thursday evening I went back to the Mall of the Emirates, had a good wonder around, had some Udon noodles for supper and saw the film 'Goodnight and Goodluck' which I really enjoyed. I got back to the hotel at 1am. I had a bit of a lie in on Saturday which was really nice and had breakfast at about 9am. I was ready to get out and see Dubai and do things at about 10am. I found out that as Friday is the Holy Day many of the places I would be interested in going are shut until the afternoon. I couldn't go that afternoon as I would be going to RP's polo event. I would have rather done something in Dubai on my own, but felt i ought to go to the polo do for a bit of office bonding. What was really annoying though was that, in order to be back to the hotel in time for my colleague to pick me up for polo, the hotel receptionist informed me that I didn't have time to go into the city and get back again (My hotel and work place are both in a Dubai Free Zone about 45 mins/hour out of town). I was a bit upset as I had been really looking forward to my day off and seeing something of the city that I have been in for the last week. So, stuck in the hotel for the morning I took a book and relaxed by the pool. It was actually quite nice - even though I ended up burning my knees. I don't know quite why I forgot to suncream there. Oops. I've had red knees all week now.
Polo was good. Much bigger event than the RP UK event. Aside from the fact that the polo pitch was not on a farm but a rather plush polo club it was actually an event sponsored by 6 companies so about 1000 people turned up and they raised AED120,000 for charity.
